Research interests
Professor Rimtautas Gudas is the sports trauma and sports orthopaedic surgeon specializes in knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle and hip arthroscopic and regenerative minimal invasive surgery. Special area of clinical interest is - anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, articular cartilage repair (implantation of chondrocytes, membranes, artificial carcasses, AMIC,OATS), transplantation-implantation of menisci, shoulder arthroscopic reconstructions (arthroLatarjet, Bankart, HAGL, rotator cuff repair, orthospace implantation). He has done over 8100 knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle and hip arthroscopic reconstructions, total 600-700 surgeries per year. More than 18 years working experience. Surgeon has made over 3.600 ligament reconstruction surgeries (more than 400 per year), 2.100 shoulder surgeries (more than 200 per year), and 2.400 other arthroscopic and sport medicine surgeries. Special area of research interest is – articular cartilage pre-clinical restoration techniques and clinical use according to research evidence. He is Co-author of 64 scientific articles represented in different medical journals and many international oral and poster presentations.
Professor Rimtautas Gudas is principal investigator in several preclinical and clinical studies:
1. 3D membrane and autologous chopndrocytes implantation in articular cartilage defects in the knee joint.
2. Alogenic cartilage and bone complex transplantation in experimental model (CHONDRO)“ Project Nr. VP1-3.1-ŠMM-07-K-03-078.
3. 3D microstructural and colagenic complex with chondrogenic cells translational implemention in cartilage regeneration. LMT national programm „Sveikas senėjimas“ (Nr. SEN-20/2015).
4. Effectiveness of return to basketball after reconstructive knee joint operations.
5. Ability restore preinjury activity level after anterior crutiate ligament reconstructions in profesional atheletes.
6. Intercondyklar noth index and anterior crutiate ligament injury correlation in athletes.
7. Prevention project of prof basketball league injury database.
Professor Rimtautas Gudas was President of Lithuanian Arthroscopic and Sports Traumatology Association (2003-2009). He is a Board member of Lithuanian Arthroscopic and Sports Traumatology Association and main Physician of Lithuanian national basketball team since 2007 year. 3. Order for Merits to Lithuania “Knight's Cross”. 2013 decree NR. 1K-1578 signed by president of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė.
