Sensorinio apdorojimo jautrumo ir didžiojo penketo asmenybės bruožų sąsajos
Recenzentas / Reviewer |
Research problem: Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) is a personality characteristic
linked to deeper and more intense emotional reactivity to both internal and external stimuli. However,
it remains unclear whether SPS is associated to a broader personality traits model. The aim of this
study is to examine the correlations between sensory processing sensitivity and personality traits
based on the Big Five (BF) personality model.
Methods: The study involved 441 participants from Kaunas city and district. The age of the
participants ranged from 19 to 74. The sample was collected using random sampling and data were
obtained through a paper-based questionnaire consisting of the Highly Sensitive Person Scale (HSPS)
to assess sensory processing sensitivity, and the Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) to asses the
expression of personality traits. The collected data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate
statistical analyses.
Results: The results revealed that SPS was significantly higher among women, participants
younger than 47 years, and individuals with higher education. Analysis of personality traits indicated
that conscientiousness was the most expressed trait, while extraversion was the least expressed.
Participants over the age of 47 tended to exhibit higher levels of agreeableness. Compared to women,
men demonstrated lower levels of agreeableness and openness to experience, but higher levels of
emotional stability. Stronger expression of conscientiousness was associated with participants who
had higher education. Weak but statistically significant negative correlations were found between
SPS and extraversion, conscientiousness, and emotional stability.
Conclusions: Statistically significant yet weak correlations found between SPS and the Big
Five suggest that these constructs are related, but remain largely distinct psychological constructs.
Therefore, SPS should be examined as an independent individual difference variable, rather than
being directly subsumed under existing personality models.
