Tikslas: Šio magistro darbo tikslas - išsamiai aptarti patofiziologiją ir rizikos veiksnius, susijusius su padidėjusia gestacinio diabeto rizika, įvertinti gestacinio diabeto diagnostikos metodus ir būdus. Aptarti nėštumą ir gimdymą bei ilgalaikes gestacinio diabeto komplikacijas moteriai ir vaisiui. Tikslai:
- Nustatyti GDM rizikos veiksnius.
- Ištirti ilgalaikę neinfekcinių ligų (antrojo tipo cukrinio diabeto, širdies ir kraujagyslių ligų, nutukimo, metabolinio sindromo) riziką moterims, sirgusioms gestaciniu diabetu, vėlesniame amžiuje.
- Nustatyti GDM nėštumo ir gimdymo komplikacijas motinai ir vaisiui.
- Ištirti ilgalaikę neinfekcinių ligų (, nutukimo, metabolinio sindromo) riziką moterų, kurioms praeityje buvo nėščiųjų diabetas, vaikams.

Aim: The aim of this master's thesis is to comprehensively discuss the pathophysiology and risk factors associated with increased risk of gestational diabetes, evaluate methods and techniques for the diagnosis of gestational diabetes. Discuss the pregnancy and delivery and long-term complications of gestational diabetes for the woman and the fetus. Objectives: Determine the risk factors of GDM. To investigate the long-term risk for noncommunicable diseases (type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, metabolic syndrome) for women with history of gestational diabetes later in their life. Determine pregnancy and delivery complications of GDM for the mother and the fetus To investigate the long-term risk for noncommunicable diseases (, obesity, metabolic syndrome) for children of women with history of gestational diabetes.
Methodology: To review current publication on gestational diabetes risk factors, outcome and long-term complications. A total of 45 sources were used. Result and discussion: The result of this research show multiple risk factors for developing gestational diabetes mellitus. There are non-modifiable and modifiable risk factor that influences the development of GDM. Based on several studies seen its found that with being diagnosed with GDM the risk of pregnancy and developing complications for both mother and offspring increases. Gestational diabetes also has a health effect on the mother long term. Studies shows that she is at increased risk of developing noncommunicable disease such as Diabetes mellites type 2, obesity and cardiovascular events etc. Studies also shows that the offspring is at risk of developing obesity and overweight in early years of their life. Conclusion: In conclusion gestational diabetes has a lot of risk factors such as obese and advance age for mothers. It’s a is common pregnancy complication which in its turn will lead to more complications during and after delivery for mother and offspring. It increases the risk for the mother of developing mental health issues, DM2, CVD, and obesity for both mother and child.
