Abstract
Progressive evolution of vertebrata has brought about the development of the system of protein as well as nucleic homeostasis. The latter is the so-called interferon system which developed for the purpose of distinguishing one's own from that which is alien. Universality of the action of the interferon system is made possible at the level of initiation of translation. The cause for the appearance of secondary immunodeficits and the question of correction of such deficits using immunomodulators and other means are discussed in the article.
