Functional acuity contrast test (FACT) in persons with age - related macular degeneration (AMD) was performed. Age – related macular degeneration was confirmed by ophthalmoscopy, colour fundus photography and fluorescein angiography. 120 persons (208 eyes) with AMD were tested. Patients were divided into two groups according to the Amsler grid testing (AGT) results: 1 group with AMD and positive AGT, 2 group with AMD and negative AGT. Contrast sensitivity was measured by a Ginsburg Box, VSCR- CST-6500 view – in tester (Vision Science Research Corp.) with a Functional Acuity Contrast Test chart (FACT chart) (by Ginsburg AP., 2003) at phothoptic (85cd/m) and mesopic (3cd/m) luminance at 5 standart spatial frequencies, from 1,5 to 18 cycles per degree (cpd). The log of the obtained values was taken to obtain the contrast sensitivity values. Conclusion. The data in the first group was significantly worse at mesopic and photopic luminance at 12 and 18 (cpd) (p<0,001). Colour discrimination in persons with pitutary adenoma producing and not producing hormones.
