Tikslas. Įvertinti ergoterapijos poveikį Snoezelen multisensorinėje aplinkoje sergančiųjų Alzheimerio liga ir kitomis demencijomis savarankiškumui bei pažintinėms funkcijoms. Darbo metodika. Purpose: to evaluate effectiveness of occupational therapy (OT) in Snoezelen multisensory environment for cognitive function and daily living activities in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias. Methods. 34 patients with diagnosed AD and other dementias living in Kaunas Pimonovų Foundation and “Slaugava” care home were enrolled in the study. All participants were assessed using the questionnaire with nine questions; cognitive functions were evaluated using Mini-Mental State Examination questionnaire (MMSE), and Functional Independence Measure Test (FIMT) was used for functional performance. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups: group 1 patients (n = 17) recieved occupational therapy three times a week in Snoezelen multisensory environment, and group 2 (n = 17) recieved occupational therapy three times a week in their usual environment. 60 occupational therapy and Snoezelen therapy procedures were applied individually or in small groups (1–3 people), which lasted from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the health status of patients, three times a week. Results. The analysis of the general of subjects with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, TPBT test results before and after occupational therapy significant improvement in cognitive function found only in Group 1 (p < 0.05), test scores changed from 17.47 ± 5.3 points to 18.06 ± 5.6 points. The evaluation research FNT test before and after occupational therapy observed functional status change, but only the 1st group results after applied Snoezelen therapy significantly increased by 3.1 score (p < 0.05) from 76.53 to 79.59 points, while the 2 groups had improved functional status changed insignificantly only 0.7 points.
