Introduction. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major health and financial burden that affects the community. VTE presents clinically as deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) with serious outcomes in both men and women. However, most of these complications and deaths are preventable with appropriate administration of cost-effective antithrombotic drugs and nonpharmacological interventions.
