Abstract (en)
Ascending thoracic aneurysm (TAA) develops when the aorta diameter dilates > 1.5 times the normal size. TAA frequently results from non-inflammatory processes including loss of vascular smooth muscle cell plasticity and perturbed extracellular matrix homeostasis. Although incidence of thoracic aortic aneurysms occurred in about 0.01% of population, this disease is clinically silent and fatal if the aortic rupture occurs. Thus, development of biomarkers remains important for early identification of TAA.In order to identify miRNAs related to aneurysm development, in this study we examined miRNA expression signatures in both TAA tissues and healthy controls by next-generation sequencing.
