Introduction. Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Lithuanian women and itsincidence and mortality rates are one of the highest in Europe. Cervical cancer screening with PAP smear reduces mortality by more than 85%. Reduction in mortality is achieved by implementing organized, population-based screening programme. Assurance of high invitation and participation rates is one of most important elements in the programme. PAP smear testing is used in primary care settings in Lithuania since 2004. Methods of invitation to participate in the screening programme are varying across the primary health care centers, therefore the lack of standartized evidence based practice for target population inclusion is linked with low participation rates. There is no systematic organization and monitoring of screening process in regional and national levels.
