Abstract
Objectives: Periosteum takes the main role in bone reparation and regeneration process. Clinically it's known that in different mandible places is different healling course. Furthermore, good aesthetic result achievement depends on gigival thickness. We raised a hypothesis that there might be some variations of periosteum thickness in case of different gingiva biotype and location in mandible. The aim of the study was to evaluate thickness of periosteum in different gingival biotypes at particular places of the mandible. Material and methods: Present study was performed in Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Clinics, Department of Maxilloifacial Surgery and Institute of Anatomy. 3 mm diameter pieces of gingivalperiosteum samples were taken during surgical tooth extraction. Samples from two different mandible places were taken for each patient. In general 28 biopsies from 14 patients were performed. Standard hematoxylineosin stain was used for biopsy samples staining. Samples structures were evaluated with bright field microscope (Zeiss Imager M1) at x5, x10, x20, x40 aggrandize. Micro photographs were performed using Axio Vision Rel.4.8 computer program. Statistical analysis was made with SPSS 18.0 program. [...].
