The new modules will allow you to enrich your studies with new experiences, complete a subject that is not directly related to your study programme, and study with students from another university. The newly acquired knowledge will help you expand your personal and professional competencies and provide you with additional career prospects.

You will study the optional subject as an unclassified student and have the opportunity to submit it for recognition of the learning outcomes under your university’s internal procedures. Concluding an unclassified student’s contract and completing the study subject is free of charge.

Registration form. The registration deadline is 5 June 2026. Use your university email for the registration. The number of positions in the modules is limited.

Before selecting a subject, please read its description and consider in which semester (autumn or spring) it is taught. You can choose one subject that corresponds to the cycle of your studies and is taught at another university.

Internship benefits include the opportunity to spend four weeks in Japan where you will attend lectures and participate in practical activities designed to help you develop a variety of professional skills in the medical field and gain valuable international experience. The selected candidates will receive accommodation at the university’s dormitory which will be funded by IUHW. Travel and return to/from Japan and other personal expenses are to be covered by the participant.

Only fifth-year medical students are eligible to apply.

From 23 September to 22 October this year, the Faculty of Pharmacy at LSMU hosted the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Creating Safe Cosmetic Products” for the fourth consecutive year. The programme highlighted the growing interest of future pharmacy specialists from abroad, as well as LSMU’s leadership in pharmaceutical product innovation and education in this field.

Students from Masaryk University (Czech Republic), San Jorge University (Spain), Charles University (Czech Republic), and the Medical University of Łódź (Poland) took part in this international initiative.

The Blended Intensive Programme “Creating Safe Cosmetic Products” is organised by the Department of Drug Technology and Social Pharmacy at the LSMU Faculty of Pharmacy in cooperation with its partners – the Medical University of Białystok, the University of Tartu, San Jorge University, and Masaryk University. The main goal of the programme is to promote international collaboration and to create an environment in which specialists from different fields can share their knowledge and experience.

The BIP is based on innovative teaching methods that combine theoretical knowledge with practical training. Part of the programme is delivered through virtual lecture sessions, during which students share knowledge, discuss key issues, and engage in active debate. The other part consists of in-person practical sessions held at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

This year, in collaboration with professors, students learned the latest skin care formulation technologies in laboratory classes. They produced a variety of cosmetic and pharmaceutical forms – from skin cleansers to lip balms, shampoos, and hydrolats.

Throughout the programme, students developed cosmetic products and deepened their understanding of pharmaceutical technology and dermatology. During the practical sessions, they examined the effects of various cosmetic ingredients, assessed their safety, and studied dermatology and cosmetic research methods that help apply modern scientific solutions to cosmetics manufacturing. Students actively participated in seminars and laboratory work, analysed and assessed their own skin condition, and explored how scientifically based cosmetic products are created.

Inspired by Student Engagement and Creativity

This year’s participants showed great interest in the Faculty’s 3D pharmaceutical printer and in the innovative creams containing dermocapsules developed at the Department of Drug Technology and Social Pharmacy. The students expressed their intention to share their newly gained knowledge of these technologies with peers and to build upon it in their Master’s theses.

Professor Jurga Bernatonienė, Head of the Department of Drug Technology and Social Pharmacy and coordinator of the BIP, was delighted with the students’ creativity. The future specialists presented their project work in a highly original way: they organised quizzes, interactive surveys, and practical sessions for professors, thereby encouraging full audience participation. 

Prof. Bernatonienė expressed her great satisfaction with the success of the BIP programme and the high level of interest and engagement shown by both students and the academic community.

A Strong International Team Brought Together

The programme brought together a strong international team of lecturers. On the LSMU side, the programme’s smooth implementation was ensured by a large group of academic staff: Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Ramunė Morkūnienė, Vice-Dean Prof. Valdas Jakštas, Dr Jurga Andrėja Kazlauskaitė, Dr Inga Matulytė, Dr Lauryna Pudžiuvelytė, Assoc. Prof. Giedrė Kasparavičienė, Assoc. Prof. Živilė Pranckūnienė, doctoral students Emilija Nemickaitė and Jolitė Stabrauskienė, Department Administrator Goda Seniūnienė, Specialist Ieva Židonytė-Kavaliauskienė, Art Therapist Neringa Jurė, Head of the Academic Mobility Division Žaneta Dičkutė, and International Programmes Coordinator Justina Vonžodienė.

“Every year we observe encouraging trends: the programme continues to grow and improve, attracting an increasing number of enthusiastic students and specialists who become true ambassadors of this initiative.

For students – future pharmacy professionals from various European countries – the BIP offers an opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge and practical skills, as well as a unique chance to collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds, exchange ideas, and jointly seek innovative solutions. For our university specialists, it is a chance to share their expertise in an international environment.

We aim not only to train professionals but also to help them become future leaders in the fields of cosmetics and pharmacy. At the same time, the programme itself has become a unifying and educational experience for us as well. I am delighted to see it grow stronger every year,” said Prof. Bernatonienė,” said Prof. J. Bernatonienė.

Marking the Beginning of a Doctor’s Journey

Distinguished figures from the medical field gathered to congratulate the new students. The University’s Rector, Professor Rimantas Benetis, emphasised responsibility and dedication to the profession.

“The white coat is the symbol of our profession. It requires devotion, dedication, and sometimes self-sacrifice. Its colour reminds us of the responsibility you take on as members of the medical community,” said the Rector.

He also wished the students a fulfilling and meaningful study experience.

“I hope your studies go as seamlessly as possible. We, the professors, will do our best to support you along the way,” – he added.

Meanwhile, LSMU Vice-Rector for Studies, Professor Kęstutis Petrikonis, encouraged the young people to contribute to building a stronger and healthier Lithuania.

“The white coat is the first step on your path to becoming doctors. May this celebration give you courage, patience, and faith in the road you have chosen,” – said the Vice-Rector.

Responsibility from the Very First Day

During the celebration, the future doctors reaffirmed their commitment to study medical science responsibly and conscientiously by taking the symbolic Hippocratic Oath.

According to Professor Andrius Macas, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, medical ethics should guide students from their very first day at the University, not only after graduation.

“Traditionally, the oath is taken upon completing one’s studies. However, you will begin meeting patients from your first year. Before you know it, people around you will be asking for your advice. That is why you must pledge to act with honesty and dignity right from the start,” – the Dean told the first-year students.

In front of their peers, professors, and guests, the students took the oath and were welcomed as members of the professional medical community.

Inspired by a Family Example

First-year medical student Ieva Machtejevaitė, who read the Hippocratic Oath aloud, said she had understood the meaning of the white coat since childhood. Her choice to study medicine was inspired by her family.

“To me, the white coat represents a new beginning, a new chapter. Since I was little, I saw my mother wearing her white coat. It symbolised the responsibility we feel towards our patients. It’s a great honour to carry that responsibility and continue our family’s tradition of doctors,” she said.

Ieva has not yet decided which medical field to specialise in, but she is fascinated by the study of the human body and how it functions.

“I’m drawn to a surgical field – perhaps cardiology or neurology – but I want to stay open and explore all possibilities during my studies,” – she shared.

White Coats for All University Freshmen  

For the fourth consecutive year, LSMU has held the Freshman’s White Coat Day, an initiative organised by the LSMU Student Affairs Office. On this occasion, white coats are presented to first-year students from all study programmes.

“The white coat is not only a professional symbol or a mark of responsibility for human and animal health but also a sign of unity and distinction that we, as the LSMU community, cherish and take pride in,” – emphasised the Dean of Student Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr Laura Malakauskienė.

The coats are presented each year as a gift from the University’s social partners, who collaborate with LSMU in joint projects, student internships, and graduate employment.

This year’s initiative was supported by the medical services company Meliva, the Camelia pharmacy chain, Kika Group, medical equipment supplier Megagen Baltics, dental clinic network Šypsenos akademija, health solutions centre Diagnostikos laboratorija, and Medical Spa Eglės Sanatorija.
