animal micro- and macro- anatomy, physiology and immunology; to organise and carry out scientific research, innovation and experimental development works in cooperation with national and international institutions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RESEARCH CENTRE FOR DIGESTIVE PHYSIOLOGY AND PATHOLOGY operates at the department, the purpose of which is to study biochemical and microbiological indicators and specific biomarkers, to develop tools and methods for diagnosing and treating diseases of the digestive tract of cattle, and improving nutritional processes and functions:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Organises and conducts scientific research work related to animal physiology functions and pathology.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Publishes scientific and popular science articles.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cooperates and concludes contracts with scientific and educational institutions, competent institutions and other economic entities carrying out commissioned scientific works and participates in their implementation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creates conditions and helps students, master\u2019s and doctoral students to carry out scientific research work.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organises scientific conferences, seminars, meetings, etc.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepares national and international scientific projects and participates in them.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performs commissioned scientific works and commissioned research, provides consultations.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Services:\u202f&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trials are organised and carried out to study digestion processes in the large rumen of cattle and the influence of various factors on productivity and milk quality.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fermentation indicators of the contents of the large rumen of cattle are investigated (pH, number of micro-organisms, total volatile fat content, total and NH3 nitrogen content, reducing activity of bacteria, glucose fermentation).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In vitro digestibility of feed dry matter is determined.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consultations are provided on issues of animal health, optimisation of fermentation processes in the digestive tract.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"page-content\">\n\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"prose the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, and Medicine.<\/p>\n<h3>Study programmes at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine<\/h3>\n<p>Students of the integrated study programmes Veterinary Medicine (VM) and Veterinary Medicine (for Foreigners) (VMU) are taught Biology, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, and Immunology courses under the following modules coordinated by the teaching staff of the Department: Life Sciences I, Locomotor System, Life Sciences II, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic and Respiratory Systems, Neuroendocrine System and Senses, Reproduction, and modules coordinated by other Departments: Metabolic System, Infection and Immune Response, and Microbiology, Virology and Parasitology.<\/p>\n<p>Human and Animal Physiology is taught to the first-cycle full- and part-time students of Food Science.<\/p>\n<p>Courses are taught to the first-cycle full- and part-time students of the Veterinary Food Safety study programmes: Morphology, Physiology, Applied Biology, delivers elective courses.<\/p>\n<p>The teaching staff of the Department also supervise Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s theses in Veterinary Medicine, Food Science, Veterinary Food Safety, Animal Science and Animal and Human Interaction study programmes.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers at the Department are also actively involved in the implementation of third-cycle studies (doctoral studies) in Agricultural Sciences (Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science) and teach the following doctoral courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Laboratory animals, welfare aspects, and their use of research and educational for the keeping, care and use of animals used for scientific and educational purposes&#8221; (No KMU 777).<\/p>\n<p>The staff of the Department participate in educational activities (the science festival &#8220;Spaceship Earth&#8221;, the &#8220;Gifted Pupils&#8221; education programme, and public health; publish research results in scientific publications and present them at conferences; review scientific articles, dissertations, and other publications; provide advice on the health of various animal species, immune system assessment, analysis of physiological indicators and osteology of animal bones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research fields<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Investigation of antigens relevant to the animal immune system using intracellular staining and other immune cell phenotyping methods in flow cytometry and molecular miRNA analysis to identify cytokine expression in immune cells.<\/li>\n<li>Antigenicity and immunogenicity studies of zoonotic hepatitis E virus in in vitro and in vivo models, molecular characterisation of common strains in domestic and wild animals.<\/li>\n<li>Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus studies in goat, sheep, and horse populations.<\/li>\n<li>Sequencing of human and tissue SARS-CoV-2 strains.<\/li>\n<li>Research on the bovine holobionts, assessing the microbiome in different parts of the organism.<\/li>\n<li>Research on the fermentation processes, health, and production of ruminant rumen contents, developing new methods and tools for the assessment and correction of physiological and pathological digestive processes.<\/li>\n<li>Anatomical, functional, and immunological characteristics of different animal species to
