The research group was subsequently reorganised into the Research Laboratory of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (headed by Prof. L. Kup\u010dinskas) by the decision of the Senate of KMU in 2008.&nbsp;In 2004, the Surgical Gastroenterology Laboratory (headed by Dr. A. Gulbinas) was established at the Research Institute of Biomedical Sciences at KMU (headed by Dr. A.Gulbinas). The successful fundamental and clinical research on digestive system diseases conducted by both laboratories. In <strong>2011<\/strong> the Bioinformatics Laboratory was established by the decision of the LSMU Senate. Currently, the Institute for Digestive Research has three laboratories: the Clinical and Molecular Gastroenterology Laboratory, the Surgical Gastroenterology Laboratory, and the Bioinformatics Laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> In <strong>2017<\/strong>, the Bioinformatics Laboratory was established by the decision of the LSMU Senate. Juz\u0117nas<\/strong>\u00a0Ist place winner in the contest LSMU \u201cPhD Student 2017\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2017 \u2013\u00a0<strong>doctoral student<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>G. Streleckien\u0117<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded for the best oral presentation by Scientific Committee of the \u201cFit for the Future\u201d in Gastroenterology Section (Berlin, Germany)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2016 \u2013 the Kaunas City Scientist Award awarded for achievements in the field of physical, biomedical, agricultural and technological sciences to <strong>Prof. Habil. Dr. L. Kup\u010dinskas<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2016 \u2013 <strong>Assoc. Prof. Dr.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>J. Kup\u010dinskas<\/strong>\u00a0given the name of the most promising medical doctor in Kaunas city<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2017 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Dr.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>J. Skiecevi\u010dien\u0117<\/strong>\u00a0IIIrd place winner in the contest LSMU \u201cYoung Scientist 2016\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2015 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Dr.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>A. Jasukaitien\u0117 (Jak\u0161tait\u0117)<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded for the best paper by Federation of European Physiological Society (FEPS) and the Baltic Physiological Society<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2015 \u2013 <strong>Assoc. Prof.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Dr. J. Kup\u010dinskas<\/strong>\u00a0IInd place winner in the contest LSMU \u201cYoung Scientist 2015\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2014 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Prof. A. Gulbinas<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded for the best poster and oral presentations by the organizing committee of the 11th World Congress of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA World Congress 2014)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2014 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Dr. A. Jasukaitien\u0117 (Jak\u0161tait\u0117)<\/strong> awarded the National Scholar Award by the Scientific committee of United European Gastroenterology (UEG) Week<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2013 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Dr.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>J. Skiecevi\u010dien\u0117<\/strong>\u00a0Ist place winner in the contest LSMU \u201cYoung Scientist 2013\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2012 \u2013 <strong>Prof. Habil. Dr. L. Kup\u010dinskas<\/strong>\u00a0selected as the most prominent research in medicine in 2002-2012 by the magazine &#8220;Veidas&#8221; in the project &#8220;Mini-Nobel 2012&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2011 \u2013 <strong>Prof. Habil. Dr. L. Kup\u010dinkas<\/strong>\u00a0awarded the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas (Class 5)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2011 \u2013\u00a0<strong>Dr. J.
