The Student Affairs Office provides support to students with individual needs, learning difficulties or disabilities to help ensure everyone can successfully pursue&nbsp;their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important that you notify us of your individual circumstances,&nbsp;as this information is not passed on to the University by default. We can only provide study-related adjustments, financial support, and further assistance if we are made aware of your needs. Additional financial support may also be granted to students with a participation level of 0\u201345% or with moderate to severe disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"acc-set\">\n\t                                                            <div class=\"acc-item\" id=\"special-educational-needs\">\n                                                    <div class=\"acc-head\">\n                                Special educational needs                            <\/div>\n                                                                            <div class=\"acc-c\">\n                                <div class=\"prose md:prose-lg\">\n                                    \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Students with special learning needs are deemed to be those who have:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a disability, such as an impairment of developmental, sensory, physical functions, or other congenital or acquired health impairment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>learning, behavioural, emotional, speech or speaking disorders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special learning needs shall be supported by the documented proof issued by a specialist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Accessibility of the study process for students with special learning needs&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Regulation of Studies at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, students may be provided with alternative means of evaluation if disabilities, preventing the regular procedures of evaluation, are present, and alternative means of evaluation ensure the attainment of planned learning outcomes by customizing the learning\/teaching setting, form of the teaching aids, font size in the assignments, extending the assignment duration, etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"page-content\">\n\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tabs-h mt-10\">\n\t\t\t\t<ul class=\"js-tabs full-color-tabs\">\n\t\t\t\t                    \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"current\" id=\"what-do-you-need-to-do-in-order-to-obtain-permission-for-alternative-evaluation\"><a href=\"#tab-01\">What do you need to do in order to obtain permission for alternative evaluation?<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t                    \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li  id=\"what-are-the-alternative-evaluation-methods\"><a href=\"#tab-02\">What are the alternative evaluation methods?<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab-c bordered active\" id=\"tab-01\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"prose md:prose-lg\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A student wishing to obtain permission for alternative evaluation needs to submit an<a href=\"https:\/\/lsmusis.lsmuni.lt\/Asmenys\/Prasymai\/VartotojasStudijosIndex\"><strong>\u00a0Electronic request application form<\/strong><\/a> for alternative assessment to the Dean&#8217;s office of their respective Faculty, along with the necessary documents confirming their special learning needs, within 7 calendar days from the beginning of the academic year. Residents should submit such documents to the Centre for Postgraduate Studies, while doctoral students should submit them to the Research Centre. International students are required to submit not only the documents, but also their translation into English performed by a professional translator, if the documents have been issued in a language other than Lithuanian or English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student data and submitted documents are confidential<\/strong>. Applications submitted by students are reviewed by designated staff members at the Dean&#8217;s office, who assess the suitability of the documents for assigning an alternative evaluation method to the student. These staff members may invite the student for an interview in order to clarify information or discuss alternative evaluation methods. The final decision regarding the assignment of an alternative evaluation method is made by the Dean of the Faculty. A student with special learning needs shall notify the course teacher about the alternative evaluation methods designated for them at the beginning of the course, but no later than 5 working days before the first evaluation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab-c bordered \" id=\"tab-02\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"prose md:prose-lg\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Each person&#8217;s special learning needs are individual, so in each case, individualized alternative evaluation methods are used. These targeted benefits are not provided for the period for which benefits were paid before the date of termination of studies or removal from higher education):&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>according to the first cycle (professional bachelor or bachelor) study programme or an integrated study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>according to the second cycle (master&#8217;s) study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>according to a non-degree study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in the third cycle (doctorate);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>have no academic debts<\/strong> according to the studied study programme and\/or <strong>penalties<\/strong> imposed by the procedure established by the higher education institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Targeted payments are available to students of ALL higher education institutions, regardless of whether their higher education institution is a project partner. Targeted payments are awarded for one semester (including the holiday period).<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>A student seeking <strong>to receive a targeted payment submits an application electronically by logging into the Fund&#8217;s information system (IS &#8220;PARAMA&#8221;) <\/strong>during the main admission: for the fall semester \u2013 <strong>from 1 September <\/strong>of the current year <strong>until 16 October<\/strong>, and for the spring semester \u2013<strong> from 1 February <\/strong>of the current year <strong>until 16 March.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The payment of the targeted benefit is terminated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>after the student has finished their studies before the planned graduation date, if they have terminated their studies in accordance with the procedure established by the higher education institution, or if the student has been expelled from the higher education institution;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>after the student goes on academic leave or temporarily suspends their studies;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>upon the student\u2019s death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The payment of the targeted benefit is suspended if the work capacity level changes (set above 45 percent work capacity level) or the student acquires academic debts or penalties in accordance with the procedure established by the higher education institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The implementation of the provisions of this description is coordinated by the Department of Disability Affairs under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\">\n        <div class=\"acc-set\">\n\t                                                            <div class=\"acc-item\" id=\"state-funded-financial-support\">\n                                                    <div class=\"acc-head\">\n                                State-funded financial support                            <\/div>\n                                                                            <div class=\"acc-c\">\n                                <div class=\"prose md:prose-lg\">\n                                    \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department for the Affairs of the Disabled under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, in accordance with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-tar.lt\/portal\/legalAct.html?documentId=41bda100cfa911e9929af1b9eea48566\"><strong>The procedure for providing financial assistance measures to students with disabilities studying at higher education institutions<\/strong><\/a>, provides financial assistance to citizens of the&nbsp;<strong>Republic of Lithuania<\/strong>&nbsp;or citizens of other countries and stateless persons who have declared a permanent place of residence in the Republic of Lithuania and are studying at a higher education institution, meeting the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>have a level of work capacity determined in accordance with the procedure established by legislation at 45 per cent or less, or a severe or moderate disability determined while studying at a higher education institution;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>study for the first time:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>under a first-cycle (to acquire a Professional Bachelor\u2019s or Bachelor\u2019s degree) study programme or an integrated study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>under a second-cycle (Master\u2019s) study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>under a vocational study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>under a third-cycle (doctoral) study programme;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>under a short-term study programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following financial assistance measures are available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>allowances to meet special needs<\/strong>: monthly allowance amount (50% of the basic social insurance pension);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>partial reimbursement of study expenses<\/strong>: allowance amount 3.2 times the basic social benefit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students with disabilities seeking financial assistance shall submit an application for financial assistance and a copy of the disability certificate to the LSMU Student Affairs Office within 10 working days from the beginning of each semester. After the expiration of the disability certificate, a copy of the extended certificate should be submitted as soon as possible.<\/p>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                                            <\/div>\n                                                                                            <div class=\"acc-item\" id=\"erasmus-financial-support\">\n                                                    <div class=\"acc-head\">\n                                Erasmus+ financial support                            <\/div>\n                                                                            <div class=\"acc-c\">\n                                <div class=\"prose md:prose-lg\">\n                                    \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LSMU students with special needs participating in <em>Erasmus+<\/em> mobility activities are eligible for additional <strong>financial support<\/strong>. The support may be granted for the following purposes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>additional expenses for the aids and\/or services, depending on the nature of the illness and\/or disability. The need for these expenses shall be substantiated by medical records, i.e., the need for the aids and\/or services for which additional support is requested shall be confirmed by an extract from medical documents issued by a doctor;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>accompanying person\u2019s subsistence and travel expenses, if these expenses are reasonable. Most LSMU buildings are suitable for use by students with disabilities. New constructions adhere to universal design principles, while the renovated existing buildings feature lifts, ramps, staircases, call buttons, and other necessary adaptations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LSMU has utilised funds from the 2014\u20132020 Operational Programme for EU Structural Funds not only to ensure access to education for students with individual needs but also to improve the conditions and quality of study for students with disabilities.
