The Department continued its work under the guidance of its head Prof. \u017dilvinas Padaiga from 2007 to 2013. Subsequently, Prof. Giedrius Vanagas served as the acting head in 2013\u20132014, followed by Prof. Linas \u0160umskas from 2014 to 2019. At present, the Department is headed by Assoc. Prof. Auks\u0117 Domeikien\u0117. The Department of Preventive Medicine is an integral part of the Faculty of Public Health of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our priority: to implement study programmes, conduct research activities, and improve the competence of health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our aim: to deliver studies at all cycles, to improve the qualification of specialists in order to train modern health care professionals of international standard, who are able to learn continuously, work in the rapidly changing health care sector, and solve complex public health problems; to carry out interdisciplinary research in the public health sciences, and to carry out programmes of public health promotion and disease prevention activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of the Department is based on the principles of comprehensive personality development, coherence between studies and research, academic freedom, and integration into the Lithuanian and foreign academic community. In spring 2016, the fourth nationally representative anthropometric and questionnaire survey of first grade children in Lithuania was conducted. The project was funded by the LSMU Research Fund and WHO. Project implementers: Prof. A. Petrauskien\u0117, coordinator and principal investigator; V. \u017daltausk\u0117, J. Vaitkevi\u010di\u016bt\u0117, researchers). The project is also supported by the graduate and undergraduate students of the Faculty of Public Health and municipal public health offices.<\/p>\n<p>HBSC. The international study (Health Behaviour in School-aged Children) (HBSC) is one of the oldest WHO studies carried out by the Department since 1994. Questionnaire surveys of schoolchildren are carried out every 4 years. More than 40 countries in Europe and elsewhere participate in the international survey. The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of young people\u2019s lifestyle, behaviour and health. The target group of study survey is students aged 11, 13 and 15.
