To develop a fully educated, ethically responsible, creative personality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To conduct high-level research in the field of neuroscience, to train scientists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To carry out a wide range of practical activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To cooperate with local and international partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Nervous and Mental Diseases at Kaunas University was established in 1924 and lasted until 1991. In 1965-1985 it was called the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, in 1985 \u2013 1991 \u2013 the Department of Nervous, Mental Diseases and Neurosurgery. From 1924 to 1939, it was led by Prof. J. Bla\u017eys, 1939 \u2013 1945 \u2013 &nbsp;Prof. &nbsp;P. Vai\u010di\u016bnas, 1945 \u2013 1953 \u2013 Prof. L. Gutmanas, 1953-1989 \u2013 Prof. J. \u0160urkus, 1989 \u2013 1991 \u2013 Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Jar\u017eemskas. The Department\u2019s Unit of Nervous Diseases had long been led by Prof. &nbsp;Habil. Dr. A. Jocevi\u010dien\u0117, later Assoc. Prof. Dr. V. Ostrauskas, Assoc. Prof. Dr. V. Kuliukas, Assoc. Prof. Dr. V. Pauza. In 1991, the Department of Neurology was established from the Unit of Nervous Diseases of the former Department and Kaunas Academic Clinics 1st and 2nd Departments and the Department of Children\u2019s Nervous Diseases. From 1991 to 1996, Dr. V. Pauza was the Head of this department, and from 1996 to 2006 \u2013 Prof. Dr. N. Vai\u010dien\u0117 \u2013 Magistris, since 2006 until present \u2013 Prof. Habil. Dr. D. Rastenyt\u0117.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Directions of clinical activity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Neurology provides full support for all levels of neurology and children\u2019s neurology to the residents of Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"page-content\">\n\n\t<div class=\"tab-c bordered active\" id=\"tab-01\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"prose md:prose-lg\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Diseases of the Nervous System<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The module is taught to the 5<sup>th<\/sup> year students of the LSMU Medical Faculty in Lithuanian and English. 5 LSMU clinical departments participate in the module:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Department of Neurology<\/li>\n<li>Department of Neurosurgery<\/li>\n<li>Department of Rehabilitations<\/li>\n<li>Department of Infectious Diseases<\/li>\n<li>Department of Radiology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Foundations of Neurology for psychologists<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is taught in Lithuanian and English to second-cycle Clinical Health Psychology students of LSMU Faculty of Public Health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Functional neuroanatomy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is taught in Lithuanian and English to second-cycle Clinical Health Psychology students of LSMU Faculty of Public Health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Residency<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Neurology residency study programme (\u0117 years, since 1 August 2023 \u2013 5 years)<\/li>\n<li>Paediatrics and paediatric neurology residency study programme (6 years: 4 years paediatrics, 2 years paediatric neurology)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During residency study programmes, resident doctors of other specialities also continue their studies at the Department of Neurology \u2013\u00a0 neurosurgeons, residents of internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, family medicine, haematology, emergency care, rheumatology, infectious diseases, child and adolescent psychiatry and paediatric residents of all specialities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doctorates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since 1991, 24 doctoral theses have been defended at the Department of Neurology.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"tab-c bordered \"
