{"id":136749,"date":"2026-07-23T16:47:54","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T13:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lsmu.lt\/?p=136749"},"modified":"2026-08-05T14:29:53","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T11:29:53","slug":"lsmu-associate-professor-dr-r-zykus-co-authors-prestigious-scientific-publication-and-new-ai-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lsmu.lt\/en\/lsmu-associate-professor-dr-r-zykus-co-authors-prestigious-scientific-publication-and-new-ai-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"LSMU Associate Professor Dr Romanas Zykus Co-Authors Major Scientific Paper and New AI Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Romanas Zykus, Associate Professor at the Department of Gastroenterology of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), is among the co-authors of a major scientific paper published in the prestigious&nbsp;<em>Journal of Hepatology<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An international team of researchers, including an LSMU scientist, has published the results of its research in the&nbsp;<em>Journal of Hepatology<\/em>, one of the world\u2019s leading journals in the field, with an impact factor of 40.1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The researchers have developed a new artificial intelligence tool, the ELM Score, which enables the non-invasive prediction of clinically significant portal hypertension in patients with compensated chronic liver disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tool:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>combines liver and spleen stiffness measurements obtained using any elastography technique with basic clinical data;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduces the proportion of inconclusive, or \u2018grey-zone\u2019, cases from nearly 48 per cent under the current Baveno VII criteria to just 12 per cent;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>maintains a high level of diagnostic accuracy;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>enables earlier and safer identification of patients requiring treatment; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>helps reduce the need for invasive diagnostic procedures in patients with chronic liver disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ELM Score calculator is available\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/elmscore.com\/\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The scientific publication is available\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0168827826026814?via%3Dihub\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Romanas Zykus, Associate Professor at the Department of Gastroenterology of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), is among the co-authors of a major scientific paper published in the prestigious&nbsp;Journal of Hepatology.
