Join Dr Andrii L. Palamarchuk, professor at the Kyiv Institute of Rehabilitation, as he shares insights from his extensive experience leading the rehabilitation of over 3,000 soldiers, many of whom have undergone limb amputation, at his centre. The lecture will cover approaches to medical and rehabilitation support for soldiers injured by mortar explosive shells amidst the ongoing Russia’s war against Ukraine.

]]> ‘Help’ is a widely used term whose meaning might appear to be self-evident.  However, when considering help in difficult situations there are many layers of meaning and complexity. A critical element in the examination of help is the degree to which it is thought of as a relational endeavor and a process. In this brief talk I aim to offer some ways of thinking of help. I hope to stimulate discussion of how some of the themes in Levinas’s work such as ‘immanence’ and ‘other’ can deepen our understanding and everyday practice of help. Or perhaps to re-frame it altogether.

Ozgul Gok research interests include biocompatible and functional polymeric materials, nanoparticle-based smart drug delivery systems, biomimetic and peptide-immobilized hydrogel scaffolds and microneedle platforms for tissue engineering, implant coating and three-dimensional biomaterials printing techniques. A short annotation of the course

This lecture series will cover the properties of polymeric biomaterials, their types, and application areas in the medical field. Starting from the synthesis of functional polymeric materials, their conjugation to biomolecules, and preparation of various architectures like nanoparticles, hydrogels, and nanofibers will be explained. The stimuli-responsive polymeric materials will also be covered for both internal (pH, temperature or enzyme) and external (light, ultrasound and magnetic field) environmental changes. Literature examples for their use in targeted drug delivery systems (like cancer cells, mitochondria, and nucleus) and also for regeneration purposes will be given. Together with the theoretical background, two lab sessions will be organized, one of which is about the preparation of lipid-based nanoparticles and the other one includes the gelation of a natural polymer for obtaining a hydrogel scaffold.

]]> The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) traditionally organizes an International Staff Week, 2022 ‘On-Line & Beyond’! Finally, after of all restrictions, we will meet face-to-face in Kaunas -European Capital of Culture 2022.

International Week (IW) is designed for representatives of the partner universities: international office staff, study advisors, academic staff, and those who are involved in the improvement of internationalization aspects at their institutions, looking for a possibility to exchange experience and ideas with the peers, and seeking for new cooperation bonds.

Programme. An engaging schedule of face-to-face activities will offer participants a wide variety of presentations, lectures, and insights on the University’s everyday life. 5 days of great experience is guaranteed including:

·                  topics of internationalization,

·                  spheres of science & research,

·                  theme of health for all,

·                  cultural exchange programme,

·                  workshops & socializing.

A visit to IW may be formalized as ERASMUS+ Mobility Exchange. For Teaching visits, there will be given opportunities to combine teaching activities and participation in IW.

Fees.  There is no participation fee. All events will be held face-to-face in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Certificates. All participants will be awarded Certificates of Attendance.

A maximum of 40 participants will be selected for participation in the Staff Week.

Priority will be given to first-time participants and max. two persons from one institution.

The deadline for registration: 10th September 2022.
