As the number of small farms raising sheep increases, it is noticed that farmers do not always know how to feed sheep in different periods, how to recognize the most common diseases, what preventive measures should be applied to reduce diseases of sheep. Acidosis, a disease of the digestive system, often occurs in sheep kept on farms. The aim of the master’s thesis was to investigate a small sheep farm and to determine the occurrence of acidosis during lambing by examining the contents of the large rumen and blood samples. The research was carried out in a small sheep farm located in the Jurbarkas district, where 8 ewe lambs from 2 to 5 years of age were selected for the research. For each sheep, samples of the contents of the rumen were examined twice, the first time before lambing, the second time after all sheep had lambed. After taking these samples, the pH was measured and the samples were subjected to microscopy and the number of infusoria was evaluated, and blood samples were taken from the jugular vein 3 times for each ewe - before lambing, on the day of delivery and one month after delivery. After measuring the pH of rumen and evaluating the number of infusoria, it was found that 4 sheep had an acute form of acidosis (pH<5.0), while 4 sheep did not have acidosis (pH>5.5). None of the studied sheep developed a subacute form of acidosis. The number of infusoria in the contents of the large rumen was 39.84 infusoria per field of view in the first examination, and 23.23 infusoria per field of view on average in the second examination. During the second study, samples from sheep with acute acidosis had an average of 4.35 infusoria per field of view, and samples from healthy sheep had an average of 42.11 infusoria per field of view. After examining the blood samples, it was found that the glucose level had fallen below the normal limits (2.78-4.44 g/L) in sheep with acidosis. The blood urea, GGT and albumin levels in blood serum were increased in sheep suffering from acidosis, while alkaline phosphatase, creatinine and total proteins did not change. Elevated urea, GGT and albumin levels were observed during all tests. During the second study, hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia are observed.
