More and more people are using smartphones, both children and the elderly. More and more cases are being described where patients come to the medical facility with a temporary visual impairment in one eye and declare that they have used a smartphone just before that. The diagnosis of smartphone-induced temporary blindness can be made based on medical history, but it is essential to evaluate the patient presenting with these symptoms and rule out other causes of monocular blindness and offer preventive measures. Conclusions: 1. Symptoms of temporary smartphone-induced monocular blindness include sudden, painless blindness in one eye lasting up to 1 minute, or severe vision loss where only shadows are visible. 2. It is important to rule out other causes of monocular blindness when making a diagnosis. 3. Correct posture is the best prevention against temporary smartphone-induced monocular blindness.
