Įžanga Iliopsoas abscess was first described by Mynter in 1881 who reffered to this as psoitis(1).Iliopsoas abscess is a collection of pus in the iliopsoas muscle compartment(2).This condition isnot very common and can be presented with different sign and symptoms.Iliopsoas abscess can happen due to hematogenous spread of infection from distant site which is called primary abscess or as a direct spread of infection from near structures to the muscle which is called secondary abscess.Psoas muscle is located close to some important anatomical structures like abdominal aorta, iliac lymph node, vertebral bodies, hip joint, appendix and sigmoid colon so the infection can spread between these structures and psoas muscle directly.Iliopsoas abscess can be divided in to primary or secondary due to presence or absence of underlying disease or in other word due to the pathogenesis. The risk factor in primary abscess can be diabetics,HIV,intravenous use of drugs ,renal failure and immunosupression also trauma and hematoma can cause psoas abscess formation(2,3,4).The risk factor in secondary abscess can be trauma and instrumentation in hip, lumbar and inguinal region and also gastrointestinal problem like crohn disease is one of the most common cause of psoas abscess(5,6,7).Before the treatment of tuberculosis be found the psoas abscess was considered to be the complication of tuberculosis of spine but since the tuberculosis has been decreased the incidence of iliopsoas abscess also has been reduced in developed countries(2).The incidence of iliopsoas abscess in male is more than female and the mortality rate of secondary abscess is more than primary abscess. The sign and symptoms of iliopsaos abscess can be different and not specific. Some symptoms of psoas abscess consist of flank, abdominal and back pain, fever, limp, weight loss, malaise, nausea and mass in the inguinal region(2,4,8).Symptoms may have features that suggest other d[...].
