According to the World Health Organization, cancer is one of the leading causes of death world-wide. Usually chemotherapeutic drugs used to treat cancer are toxic both for cancer and normal cells, so it is very important to seek for more natural treatments, such as treatment with herbal preparations. Meadowsweet (Lat. Filipendula ulmaria) is common plant growing wild in the north-eastern part of Europe. Its raw material contains has high amount of elagotannins, whose main ingredients are rugosin A and D, and telimagrandin I and II. Many studies demonstrate antitumor efficacy of tannins, as they may protect the cell wall from the adverse effects of environmental conditions. Meadowsweet herb also contains flavonoids such as rutin, hyperoside, quercetin and spireoside. They show antithrombotic, antiviral, antibacterial, anticancer activity. The aim of our research was to evaluate the activity Meadowsweet herbal liguid extracts. The object of research was Meadosweet herbal ethanolic extracts (1:10), made using ultrasonic extraction.
