Abstract (en)
We investigate neurons from frog tectum that are involved in detection of visual stimuli important for animal's survival. 30% of these neurons have ability to generate dendritic spikelet Na+ currents under somatic voltage clamp. It remains unclear whether these currents influence generation of the output. Fast prepotentials preceded spike generation when injecting depolarizing current, and in the same neurons dendritic spikelet currents could be triggered by synaptic stimulus under somatic voltage clamping. Therefore, it is possible that spikelets activated in the dendrities could initiate generation of full sodium spikes.
