Abstract (en)
During superficial X-ray therapy it is worth to protect ocular structures (such as cornea, lens, conjuctiva and retina) by using lead eye shielding. Evaluation of shield efficiency can be performed using ionization chambers, thermoluminescent dosimeters and radiochromic films for dose estimation. Films are very suitable in this case due to their ability to measure two dimensional dose distributions beneath the eye shield with no distortion of experimental geometry. Results on eye shielding efficiency estimation using GAFCHROMIC XR type R films for dose assessment are presented in this paper. Radiochromic film data was analyzed via flatbed document scanner and processed using home-developed MATLAB image processing algorithm.
