Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a lifelong, metabolic disorder, typically arising in childhood and adolescence. Diabetes management requires significant involvement of medical/health human and financial resources as well as proper parenting involvement. Blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration and calculation of carbohydrates in food are essential for children with T1DM during all day, and the need for assistance varies across age groups.Poor parental psychological well-being (PWB) relates to behavior problem in youth, lack of support from parents, and parental distress, which negatively associate with T1DM management. (Eilander et al., 2017).Reduced parental PWB is associated with increased parenting distress and negative diabetes-specific parenting and reduced positive parenting behaviors. Research purpose To evaluate the psychological well-being of mothers with T1DM and healthy mothers and to compare its peculiarities in these groups. Methods. Maternal PWB was assessed with the Lithuanian Psychological Well-Being Scale (LPGS). The questionnaire was completed by mothers with children aged 6–12 years and they have been suffering from T1DM for a year or longer, and mothers whose children do not have any chronic diseases. Mothers of 134 children with T1DM and mothers of 163 healthy children participated in the study. A comparison of psychological well-being scale and subscale means was performed, applying nonparametric Mann Whitney u testResults. In order to reveal the features of PWB in mothers of children with T1DM, to compare the results of LPGS and subscales in the groups of mothers of children with and mothers of children without any chronic diseases. The results of the study show that LPGS itself and its subscales (optimism, satisfaction with the cost of living, positive emotionality, satisfaction with relationships with loved ones, satisfaction with interpersonal relationships, satisfaction with physical health, job satisfaction) differ statistically significantly and show that the mothers of children with T1DM have a significantly lower level of PWB. Conclusions. Mothers of children with T1DM in comparison with mothers of healthy children characterized by poorer psychological well-being.
