Relative doses have been measured in the nearest vicinity of Ir-192 brachytherapy source with the aim to evaluate dose distribution anisotropy. Two methods have been applied: film dosimetry and ionisation chamber measurements in the water phantom. In the first case film calibration was performed for the evaluation of relative dose values. Dose calculations using MEPHYSTO program were performed in the case of ionisation chamber measurements. Obtained planar dose distributions around the Ir-192 source were compared to those, provided by a manufacturer. Present paper summarises evaluation results of relative dose distribution anisotropy around linear brachytherapy source and discusses some aspects of applicability of both methods for the dose measurements in brachytherapy.
