Objective Description of multidomain sexual function in 26-36-year-old healthy (H) and type 1 diabetic (T1D) men using European Male Ageing Study (EMAS) Sexual Functioning Questionnaire (SFQ) and comparison of the results with former described sexuality of EMAS different age groups (40-70+). Methods Eighty one healthy and 122 type 1 diabetic participants were assessed using the EMAS-SFQ. Sexual parameters were: overall sexual function (OSF), sexual function distress (SFD), change in sexual functioning compared with a year ago (CSF), masturbation (M) and erectile function (EF). Results Sexuality parameters of 26-36-year-old healthy men compared to EMAS 40-49-year-old group and those of T1D with EMAS 50-59-year-old participants were similar, respectively. OSF, SFD and CSF of healthy men were similar with EMAS 40-49-year-old group. OSF of healthy men was higher as compared with T1D, EMAS 50-59-year-old, EMAS 60-69-year-old and EMAS 70+year-old men. Moreover, SFD was lower and CSF was less negative, respectively. SFD in T1D and M score in H were statistically significantly higher, compared with all EMAS aged groups. Masturbation score was higher in healthy participants as comparing with all other groups due to reduced number of non-masturbating persons. Masturbation score was statistically lower and SFD of T1D men was higher starting from the first decade of the disease. Erectile function was significantly decreased only after second decade of the disease compared with healthy men. Conclusion Multidomain investigation of sexual function in healthy and type 1 diabetic men gives new interesting and sometimes difficult to interpret results. Reduced masturbation and increased sexual function distress in type 1 diabetic patients from the beginning of the disease (first decade) rise question if these changes would be really considered as complication of the diabetes. On the other hand, it could be an acute psychological reacti [...].
