Introduction Hygienic menstrual products’ choice depends on the need of a woman, however, the majority of girls and women seeking for effective, safe and affordable menstrual products. The menstrual cup is a relatively new alternative but more and more chosen by women of various ages due to its sustainability, leakage protection, and significant cost savings (1). Aim To evaluate the prevalence and to define characteristics that are important when choosing a menstrual cup in the Lithuanian women population. Methods A prospective anonymous survey was conducted in 2020 February using a questionnaire uploaded in the online survey platform google forms. The questionnaire was approved by the Bioethics centre of LSMU (approval No. BEC-MF-241). It consisted of 4 demographic questions and 9 questions regarding the usage of hygienic menstrual products and anamnesis relevant to the topic. Respondents were divided into 3 groups regarding what menstrual products they were using: I group - only menstrual cup; II - menstrual cup and other hygienic menstrual products; III - other hygienic menstrual product. We anticipated to find out what characteristics are the most important when choosing a menstrual product including environmentally-friendly, retention of bad odour, convenience, maintenance of physical activity and the duration of the product. For statistical analysis, Chi-square Test was used. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25.0. Results were considered significant at p < 0.05. Results Answers of 640 women were submitted. The majority of respondents were between 21 and 30 years old (61.4%), married or had a partner (72.7%), had a university degree (78.8%) and were living in an urban area (91.6%). Groups were distributed by the following: I group - only menstrual cup (23.0%); II - menstrual cup and other hygienic menstrual products (42.3%); III - other hygienic menstrual products (34.7%).
