Abstract
The roots of the common burdock are prepared as a medical raw material, its overground part being used for silos making. The plant contains different active substances: flavonoids (in leaves 5.7-18.0%, in roots 7-9 times less), tanning substances (up to 6.4%), carotinoids, ascorbic acid (in leaves up to 0.97%, in roots up to 0.13%). Plants in their first year accumulate most of green mass and active substances therefore they are most suitable for collecting raw material.
