Background/Aims. The role of non-invasive test to assess liver fibrosis is increasing and they are gradually introduced in clinical practice. The aim of our study was to assess correlation between transeint elastography (TE), aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI) and histological stage of fibrosis. Methods. In this prospective study the correlations of TE (FibroScan*) and APRI with fibrosis stage were assessed in 125 chronic HCV or HBV hepatis patients. TE and APRI were measured at the same day before biopsy. Interquartile range/median <20% and success rate >70% were considered as good quality criteria during TE. Fibrosis was evaluated using METAVIR score. Pathologist was blinded to TE and APRI results. Cut-off values were established by ROC analysis. Results. We included 108 HCV, 15 HBV and 2 coinfected patients. Strong correlations of liver stiffness R - 0.767 (p<0.01) and APRI R - 0,631 (p<0.01) with liver fibrosis stage were established. The cut-off values and APRI with specificity and sensitivity for different stages of fibrosis are presented in the table. [...].
