Research background. Pilates exercises is designed to engage the mind and body in developing strong, flexible musclesa. It is believed that by building strong core muscles in the abdominals and lower back, the whole body could be balanced and conditioned for peak performance (Asp, 2000). Scientific research shows that Pilates core stability training enhances motor performance skills by increasing lower extremity muscle strength and improving postural stability and can prevent musculoskeletal disorders and improve quality of life (Yua et al., 2012).
