Introduction/Objectives: Nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) remains a serious problem and has significant mortality. It is important to elucidate the factors of the poor prognosis of the bleeding event. Aims and methods: To analyze the nonvariceal UGIB cases in the University hospital and to evaluate the Rockall score as a prognostic tool for the rebleeding, surgery and mortality. Methods and Patients: the retrospective analysis of the patients admitted to the University hospital due to nonvariceal UGIB in the year 2008 was performed. There were 167 cases, 107 male (64,1%), mean age - 56.1 ± 17.3, and 60 (35.9%) female, mean age - 65.0 ± 17.2. Results: The reasons of nonvariceal UGIB were: peptic ulcer in 123 (73.7%) patients, Mallory-Weiss tear in 20 (12%), angiodysplasias in 11 (6.6%), haemorrhagic gastritis in 13 (7.8%) cases. [...].
