L-PRF Platelet-rich fibrin is a second-generation platelet concentrate which contains platelets and growth factors in the form of fibrin membranes prepared from the patient's own blood free of any anticoagulant or ather artificial biochemical modifications. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of platelet-rich fibrin (I-PRF) on postoperative swelling, pain, soft tissue healing after the extraction of third molars. Methods. Impacted third molars were surgically removed from 30 patients (8 males and 22 females; which a mean age from 20 to 28 years). L-PRF clots were placed in 28 and 38 teeth extraction sockets while 18 and 48 teeth sockets remained empty. The variables assessed were pain, swelling, soft tissue healing during the first postoperative week. Results: In the study group, a significantly less pain was recorded in left side (sockets filled with I-PRF): the first (75%), third (53%) and seventh (10%) postoperative days (P<0,001). Swelling was also significantly less in left side (extraction sockets filled with l-prf clot) comparing with right side (extraction sockets remained empty): first day 51%, third day after extraction 48% swelling was less in left side and seventh day swelling was same in both sides (P<0,001 except seventh day).
