Abstract (en)
The influence of GABAa-receptors blockade by (-)bicuculline methiodide on whole-cell synaptic responses to visual stimuli in frog tectal neurons was examined. It was found that inhibitory component of the response is very sensitive to bicuculline and could be blocked by small (2-3 μM) concentrations of the agent. Therefore neuronal responses to different kind of visual stimuli became uniform in their shape, i.e. only prolonged excitatory postsynaptic current is recorded at the presence of bicuculline. This points out that GABAa-receptors are involved in visual information processing in tectal neurons.
