It is well known that the capacity of articular cartilage for repair is limited. Non-healing osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions of the knee, amenable to internal fixation, have been treated using various arthroscopic techniques. A stable fixation has been achieved successfully by transfixion of lesions with various devices, including the Kirschner wires, bioabsorbable pins, nails, standard and cannulated screws and the Herbert screws.
