The beneficial health effect of polyphenols is attributed to their antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antiproliferative properties. Ellagitannins and ellagic acid have been shown significantly contribute to the antioxidant activity of red raspberries. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the anti-inflammatory effect of fruit and marc extracts of Rubus idaeus L. cultivars and of ellagic acid by assessment of the production of the hydrogen peroxide by murine macrophage J774 cells. Additionally, the effects of extracts on the viability of macrophages were investigated. The content of polyphenols was determined using HPLC and spectrophotometrical methods. Antiradical activity was evaluated using DPPH method. Measurement of hydrogen peroxide was performed using macrophage culture stimulated by arachidonic acid and phorbol-12-myristate-13 acetate, Amplex red, horseradish peroxidase and with or without added extracts and ellagic acid. Macrophage viability was evaluated using Trypan blue test. [...].
