PLUNC is a medical 3D radiation treatment planning (RTP) system developed at the University of North Carolina for educational purposes. We are one of the users of this educational radiation treatment planning system in Kaunas University of Technology for medical physics students' from 2012 y. PLUNC is a portable, adaptable, and flexible software tool for RTP. The main advantages for our medical physics students using 3D RTP system PLUNC means: safe, realistic education process. It helps for the future professionals and "real patients" to find discuss the most proper and optimized radiation treatment plan and irradiation technique, so it is easier to integrate the new practitioner in real clinical environment after graduation. Introduction. The main task of Radiotherapy treatment planning (RTP) system is to estimate isodoses distribution and accurately to calculate prescribed dose to the tumour. Evolution of the computers and computerized systems enabled the possibility to improve the basic twodimensional (2D) radiotherapy treatment planning to a more accurate and more visualised three-dimensional (3D) conformal radiotherapy (CRT) treatment planning systems. The main task is to choose the most appropriate 3D RTP systems calculation algorithm, because it varies from empirical deterministic algorithms to statistic monte carlo based algorithms. Evaluating limitations some of the calculation algorithms the influence of heterogeneities inside the body against radiation absorbtion cannot always properly be evaluated. [...].
