Purpose: To determine muscle activity and posture changes while sitting on unstable surfaces. Tasks: 1. To evaluate muscle activity while sitting on different surfaces 2. Assess sitting posture on different surfaces Methods: There were examined 12 people who voluntarily agreed to participate in the pilot study. To track the movements of the torso and pelvis were used mocap system (QualiSys) with 15 reflective markers 19mm diameter. Using palpation method markers were affixed to the following locations: • C7, T7, L3 spacer brackets growths • Acromion • Top edge of the iliac crest • Posterior superior iliac spine • Anterior superior iliac spine • Patella • Lateral ankle bone joint surface Participants was given three tests: 10s sitting straight on the selected surface, hands crossed on his chest 10s sitting bent forward hands crossed on his chest 10s sitting leaned back, his hands crossed on his chest All of these tests were made on different seating surfaces: chairs which are usually round Back app chair, Human Tool saddle-type plane, plain wooden surface, buckling chairs Thatsit ™ balans®. Using electromyography (EMG NORAX) was observed in these muscle activity during all of these tests static and dynamic seating fluctuating back and forth without stopping: • m. Thoracic erector spinae • m. Multifidus • m. Rectus abdominis • m. External oblique Conclusion: The greatest impact on body posture had Human Tool saddle-type plane. Unfortunately we could not assess objective buckling chairs Thatsit ™ balans® influence for posture, because it was covering reflective markers. Back app chair showed the most influence on the trunk muscles activity however muscle activity was highly dependent on human physical activity. For people with great physical activity unstable surface did not have a significant impact.
