P110.Safe and healthy work environment is very important not only for the welfare of employees, but it also helps to ensure successful performance of institution, good quality of services for patient and favourable work climate. Our research was targeted on clarifying the opinion of employees about their health condition, their workplace and factors determining health. Methods: The questionnaire was prepared according to the recommendations of WHO. Doctors, nurses and administration staff took part in the survey. The total number of distributed questionnaires was 300; the questionnaires were filled in by 216 persons (response rate – 72 percent). Results: The employees of hospital like their work (4.27, in the scale from 1 to 5). Half of the employees mentioned that their work conditions meet all hygiene and safety requirements. About 40 percent of employees are engaged in sports, 59 percent would do sports if facilities were provided at the workplace. Smokers – 18.4 percent, but the major part would like to get rid of this addiction. The majority of employees, attempting to improve their health condition, would like to avoid stress, choose a healthier diet, more engage in sports (Figure 1), but such obstacles like the lack of time, finances, frequent stressful situations prevent that. 14 Medical staff attitude towards improvementItem type:Publication, conference paper[2007][T2][M004][1] ;Radžiūnaitė, Laimutė; 15th International Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals Contributions of HPH to quality of care, quality of life and quality of Health systems : April 11-13, 2007 Vienna, Austria : abstractbook. Vienna, 2007., 2007-04-11, p. 137, no. 135.Increasing requirements regarding the quality of healthcare services urge the management and all the staff to increase the quality of services provided. The aim of this survey – to assess the attitude of the doctors and nurses towards improvement of the quality of services provided. Methodology A self administrated questionnaire was conducted among medical staff in January 2007. 201 questionnaires were handed out. Results To ensure the quality, a quality management system was introduced in the hospital. The opinion of the staff about introduction of the system was better than average (3.20 points out of 5). Introduction of the quality management system was appreciated more by the nurses – 3.48 (0.92) points, than doctors – 3.25 (1.00) points, p<0.001. In the opinion of the medical staff, importance of quality in the hospital is of average level (47.12%), many chose the option “High“ (35.08%). Medical staff indicated that the main reason for improving the quality of health care services provided was their wish for personal improvement (4.31 (0.76)) and satisfaction (4.21 (0.84). Doctors and nurses believe, that quality of work could be improved by better equipment and higher wages. In order to ensure the quality healthcare services, cooperation among the management and staff of the institution is important. The staff are almost fully satisfied with the cooperation of their direct management (3,73 (1,69). Majority of the staff share their ideas with the direct management (78.1%), while the management regards the suggestions of their staff (84.9%) (p<0.001). Conclusions In the opinion of the staff, quality is of average importance in the hospital. The nurses are more concerned with improvement of the quality. The main reason for improving the quality of services provided is the wish for improvement of the staff. Better equipment and higher wages would also improve the quality of work.
