Abstract
Tyrimo problema.

Scientific problem. Lithuanian statistics show that a quarter of families with children were single families in 2020: children more often grew up with their mother rather than with their father. In many cases, the role of the father in the life of the child is perceived as less important than the mother. In the research related to the parenthood, fathers participated less often compared to the number of mothers. No studies were found that examined fathers’ experiences after completing a parenting skills strengthening program.
The aim – to reveal the parenting experience among the fathers who have completed the STEP program.
Participants. Fathers who have completed the STEP program since December 2020 until December 2021 (n = 9).
Method. The qualitative research was chosen. The data was collected using a semi–structured interview. The study started in December 2021 and finished in January 2022. The interview was conducted live and online. Data analysis was done using the descriptive phenomenology analysis method by Colaizzi (1978).
Results. After conducting descriptive phenomenological analysis 4 themes emerged that reveal the parenting experiences of fathers who have completed the STEP program: 1) Fatherhood is ..., 2) Relationship with the program, 3) Close relationship with the children, 4) Methods of respectful upbringing.
Conclusion. 1) Participants described fatherhood as a responsibility for the children, continuous learning and strong enjoyable feelings. 2) Fathers were strongly motivated at the beginning of the STEP program; they felt a sense of communion with other parents, faced challenges in completing tasks at home and tried to apply the knowledge with other people. 3) The participants’ relationship with the children is close. 4) These parents raise the children with respect.
