SUMMARY Master Management of Public Health THE EVALUATION OF OPINION AMONG INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL STUDENTS REGARDING THE NEED OF HEALTH SERVICE MANAGEMENT FOR PHYSICIAN Angsumalin Intakan Professor Prof. Dr.Mindaugas Stankūnas Faculty of Public Health, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas, 2024; 61 p. Aim: To evaluate the opinion of international medical students regarding the need for health service management for physicians. Objectives:1) To survey the opinion for international medical students regarding the importance for health service management in healthcare organizations. 2) To investigate the attitude of international medical students on what the most important health service management competencies for physicians. 3) To evaluate the approach of international medical students to the development of health service management knowledge and skills. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out between October 2023 and February 2024 at the medical faculty and Faculty of Public Health at the Lithuanian University of Health Science in Kaunas, Lithuania. The questionnaire with 32 questions consisting of 4 parts contains 20 competencies categorized into five domains called the LEADS framework. The respondents were asked to rate their current level and the required level of competency for each statement. Competencies are evaluated using a Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5. Where 1 indicates the minimum and 5 indicates the maximum. All data were entered into the SPSS (Statistical Data for the Social Sciences) software version and analyzed. Ethical consideration: Approval for the conduct of this research was granted by the International Student Office, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and this approval was further certified by the Bioethics Center of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, upon which the final approval was granted by the center. Results: Out of the 230 questionnaires issued, 150 were returned (65.2% response rate). The majority of respondents were female (57.3%). More than half (55%) were 25 years of age or older. The 4th-year students were more interested in this survey, and they made more than half (52.3%) of all respondents. In terms of their original continent, 72 (49.7%) were from Europe. The respondents rated their current level of competency lower than their required level of competency. The respondents rated their competencies in each domain positively; the respondents had the highest level of competency in the domains of ‘Demonstrate character’ and ‘Demonstrate a commitment to customers and service’ the least. Almost all participants acknowledged the need for health service management in healthcare organizations, with the highest percentage being 95.5%. Medical students have acknowledged the significance of the development of health service management knowledge and skills. However, the program might not be suitable for the sixth year of the medical curriculum due to less than half rated agree and strongly agree in the survey. Conclusions:
- The opinion of international medical students regarding the importance of health service management in healthcare organizations. The result indicates that almost all participants acknowledged the need for health service management in healthcare organizations. Even with the lowest percentage, more than half of participants believe that healthcare managers are promoted based on clinical performance and seniority.
- The attitude of international medical students toward the most important health service management competencies for physicians. The most important result was that they rated their current competencies in the domain of Lead Self (LS), the competency of ‘Demonstrate character’.
- The approach of international medical students to the development of health service management knowledge and skills. Medical students have acknowledged the significance of the development of health service management knowledge and skills. SANTRAUKA Visuomenės sveikatos valdymo magistras TARPTAUTINIŲ MEDICINOS STUDENTŲ NUOMONĖS APIE SVEIKATOS PASLAUGŲ VALDYMO POREIKĮ GYDYTOJAMS VERTINIMAS Angsumalin Intakan Profesorius Prof. Dr. Mindaugas Stankūnas Visuomenės sveikatos fakultetas, Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetas, Kaunas, 2024 Tikslas: Įvertinti tarptautinių medicinos studentų nuomonę apie sveikatos paslaugų valdymo reikalingumą gydytojams. Uždaviniai: Ištirti tarptautinių medicinos studentų nuomonę apie sveikatos paslaugų valdymo svarbą sveikatos priežiūros organizacijose. Išnagrinėti tarptautinių medicinos studentų požiūrį į svarbiausius sveikatos paslaugų valdymo įgūdžius gydytojams. Įvertinti tarptautinių medicinos studentų požiūrį į sveikatos paslaugų valdymo žinių ir įgūdžių tobulinimą. Metodai: Tyrimas buvo atliktas Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universiteto (LSMU) medicinos fakultete ir Visuomenės sveikatos fakultete Kaune, Lietuvoje, nuo 2023 m. spalio iki 2024 m. vasario mėnesio. Klausimyną sudarė 32 klausimai, suskirstyti į 4 dalis, kurios apima 20 kompetencijų, kategorizuotų į penkias sritis pagal LEADS sistemą. Respondentai buvo paprašyti įvertinti savo dabartinį ir reikalingą kiekvienos kompetencijos lygį. Kompetencijos buvo vertinamos naudojant Likerto skalę nuo 1 iki 5, kur 1 nurodo mažiausią, o 5 - didžiausią lygį. Visi duomenys buvo suvesti į SPSS (Statistical Data for the Social Sciences) programos versiją ir analizuojami. Etiniai aspektai: Leidimą vykdyti šį tyrimą suteikė Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universiteto Tarptautinių studentų biuras, o šį leidimą papildomai patvirtino Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universiteto Bioetikos centras, kuris suteikė galutinį patvirtinimą. Rezultatai: Iš 230 išduotų klausimynų grąžinti 150 (atsako rodiklis 65,2%). Dauguma respondentų buvo moterys (57,3%). Daugiau nei pusė (55%) buvo 25 metų amžiaus ar vyresni. 4 kurso studentai labiau domėjosi šia apklausa ir sudarė daugiau nei pusę (52,3%) visų respondentų. 49,7% respondentų buvo iš Europos. Respondentai savo dabartinį kompetencijos lygį įvertino žemesniu nei reikalingą. Respondentai teigiamai vertino savo kompetencijas kiekvienoje srityje; aukščiausias kompetencijos lygis buvo „Demonstruoti charakterį“ ir „Demonstruoti įsipareigojimą klientams ir paslaugoms“ srityse. Beveik visi dalyviai pripažino sveikatos paslaugų valdymo poreikį sveikatos priežiūros organizacijose, didžiausias procentas siekė 95,5%. Medicinos studentai pripažino sveikatos paslaugų valdymo žinių ir įgūdžių tobulinimo svarbą. Tačiau programa gali būti netinkama šeštajame medicinos studijų kurse, nes mažiau nei pusė respondentų sutiko arba stipriai sutiko su teiginiu. Išvados:
- Tarptautinių medicinos studentų nuomonė apie sveikatos paslaugų valdymo svarbą sveikatos priežiūros organizacijose. Rezultatai rodo, kad beveik visi dalyviai pripažino sveikatos paslaugų valdymo poreikį sveikatos priežiūros organizacijose. Net ir esant mažiausiam procentui, daugiau nei pusė dalyvių mano, kad sveikatos priežiūros vadovai yra skatinami remiantis klinikine veikla ir darbo stažu.
- Tarptautinių medicinos studentų požiūris į svarbiausias sveikatos paslaugų valdymo kompetencijas gydytojams. Svarbiausias rezultatas buvo tas, kad jie savo dabartines kompetencijas srityje „Vadovauti sau “(Lead Self) įvertino kaip „Demonstruoti charakterį“(Demonstrate character). 3.Tarptautinių medicinos studentų požiūris į sveikatos paslaugų valdymo žinių ir įgūdžių tobulinimą. Medicinos studentai pripažino sveikatos paslaugų valdymo žinių ir įgūdžių tobulinimo svarbą. Tačiau programa gali būti netinkama šeštajame medicinos studijų kurse.
