Quantity analysis of essential oil compounds found in marigolds (Tagetes L.) plants growing in LithuaniaItem type:Publication, conference output[2026][T1e][M003][1]; Chmieliauskaitė, GustėInternational Conferene "Contemporary Pharmacy: Issues, Challenges and Expectations 2026" : March 27, 2026 Lithuania, Kaunas : Abstract book, 2026-03-27, p. 51-51Background: The biologically active substances in essential oils have antibacterial, antiviral, painrelieving, and stress-relieving properties. Essential oils are also known for their insect repellent properties and antioxidant/anti-inflammatory activity [1, 2]. Aim: To determine and compare the chemical and quantitative composition of essential oil components in the flowers of different varieties of marigolds (Tagetes L.) grown in Lithuania by gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometry method. Methods: Essential oils from tagetes were isolated by water distillation. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of serum essential oils was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry GC-MS. Results and conclusions: Summarizing the results of the research of essential oils, it was found that the highest amount of essential oil components accumulate in the T. patula variety. It can be noted that the species T. patula and T. erecta have many quantitative and qualitative similarities. Both T. patula and T. erecta in all 11 cultivars had the highest proportion of essential oils in β-caryophyllene (40.53–68.91%). In these two species, more than 10% of the total compounds in the essential oils were spatulenol or germacrene. T. erecta Calando Lemon and Calando Orange and T. patula Lemon Drop and Fireball had higher levels of β-caryophyllene than 15%. T. tenufolia accumulates much larger (E) -ocymene and tagetone leaves. The predominant component in the essential oils of the orange Gem variety is (E) -ocymene. The Orange Gem variety is the only one that accumulates as much as 23.15% of this compound. The total maximum amount of essential oil was obtained in the samples of T. patula Strawberry blond flowers (336.5 ± 107). The results obtained during the research show that the qualitative and quantitative composition of sorghum (Tagetes L.) growing in Lithuania is quite similar, the same components predominate in many essential oils extracted from the flowers.
4 Aminorūgščių kiekių palyginimas rūgtinių (Polygonaceae L.) šeimos augaluose skirtingu vegetacijos laikotarpiuItem type:Publication, conference output[2026][T1e][M003][1] ;Blandytė, Akvilė; Farmacijos tyrimai ir technologijos 2026 : Nacionalinės mokslinės konferencijos abstraktų knyga, 2026-01-30, no. 2, p. 12-12Įžanga. Rezultatai. Atlikus kiekybinę analizę džiovintuose valgomųjų rūgštynių (Rumex acetosa L.) lapų, daržovinių rabarbarų (Rheum rhabarbarum L.) stiebų mėginiuose gauti rezultatai rodo, kad statistiškai reikšmingai didesnį kiekį nepakeičiamųjų aminorūgščių kaupia valgomųjų rūgštynių lapai, lyginant su daržovinių rabarbarų stiebais. Didžiausias bendras aminorūgščių kiekis valgomosiose rūgštynėse buvo nustatytas vegetacijos pabaigoje rugsėjo mėnesį (21,34 ± 1,683 µg/g), o mažiausias - intensyvaus augimo metu balandžio (3,00 ± 0,156 µg/g) ir gegužės (1,28 ± 0,116 µg/g) mėnesiais. Daržoviniuose rabarbaruose didžiausias bendras aminorūgščių kiekis buvo nustatytas žydėjimo metu liepos mėnesį (2,36 ± 0,229 µg/g), o mažiausias - intensyvaus augimo metu balandžio (0,04 ± 0,003 µg/g) ir gegužės (0,05 ± 0,004 µg/g) mėnesiais. Išvados. Atlikus nepakeičiamųjų aminorūgščių kokybinį ir kiekybinį nustatymą dujų chromatografijos - masių spektrometrijos su junginių derivatizacija metodu, buvo identifikuotos šios aminorūgštys: L-valinas, L-leucinas, izoleucinas, L-treoninas, L-fenilalaninas. Valgomųjų rūgštynių lapų ėminiai pasižymėjo statistiškai reikšmingai didesniu nepakeičiamųjų aminorūgščių kiekiu lyginant su daržovinių rabarbarų stiebų ėminiais.

15 Total Phenolic Compounds in Samples of Edible Honeysuckle Berry Cultivars from Different Lithuanian PlacesItem type:Publication, conference paper[2024][T1e][M003][1]; ; Contemporary Pharmacy: Issues, Challenges and Expectations 2024 : International Conference : March 22, Lithuania, Kaunas : Abstract book / Prepared by Jurga Andreja Kazlauskaite and Inga Matulyte, 2024-03-22, no. 1, p. 101-101Background: Honeysuckle berries belong to the genus Lonicera, family Caprifoliaceae [1]. Studies have shown that honeysuckle berries accumulate beneficial bioactive compounds, especially phenolic compounds, mainly anthocyanins, chlorogenic acid, quercetin and iridoids. The compounds in the fruit of L. Caerulea have antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anticancer, antiinflammatory, neurological and cardioprotective effects [2]. Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the total phenolic compounds of edible honeysuckle berries growing in Lithuania. Methods: Extracts of frozen edible honeysuckle berries are prepared by crushing 1 g of the plant material, adding 70% methanol up to the 9 ml mark and placing in an ultrasonic bath for 30 minutes. The resulting extract is filled with 70 % methanol to the 10 ml mark. Centrifuge for 5 min. The total phenolic compounds in the honeysuckle extract were determined spectrophotometrically using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent. Results: The highest content of total phenolic compounds was found in the cultivar "Zojka" - 14,35 ± 0,26 mg/g (grown in Alytus) and 13,69 ± 0,25 mg/g (grown in Klaipėda). Slightly lower levels were found in the variety 'Zojka' - 11,15 ± 0,20 mg/g (grown in Klaipėda). The lowest total phenolic compounds were found in the cultivar 'Honey bee' - 7,12 ± 0,13 mg/g (grown in Alytus) and in the cultivar 'Honey bee' - 7,12 ± 0,13 mg/g (grown in Vilnius). These results are statistically significantly different from those of 'Honey bee' (grown in Klaipėda) (p<0,05). Conclusions: The results showed that the place of cultivation influences the accumulation of phenolic compounds in edible honeysuckle berries. The variation in phenolic compounds between cultivars was related to growing and climatic conditions.
40 Development and Evaluation of Two-Phase Gel Formulations for Enhanced Delivery of Active Ingredients: Sodium Diclofenac and CamphorItem type:Publication, journal-article[2024][S1][M003][23]; ; ; ; ; Pharmaceutics, 2024-03-05, vol. 16, no. 3, p. 1-23The formulation of biphasic gels as potential semi-solid carriers for hydrophilic and lipophilic active substances is promising for the development of pharmaceutical preparations. The aim of this study was to design a stable bigel composition and to determine the influence of the organogel/hydrogel ratio on the gel’s physical-chemical and structural-mechanical properties. The investigated compositions of organogel/hydrogel remained stable at ratios ranging from 5/95 to 40/60. After texture and microstructure analysis, bigels with 20/80 and 25/75 ratios were selected as carriers for the active ingredients, sodium diclofenac and camphor, for use as topical preparations for the treatment of muscle-joint inflammation and pain. Although other researchers have published data on the preparation and evaluation of bigels, there are no scientific results on the development of a two-phase gel with our proposed combination of APIs. Sodium diclofenac release was found to be higher when combined with camphor, which revealed the advantages of the biphasic formulation. The pseudoplastic behavior, thixotropy, and thermal stability of flow of the studied bigel samples was investigated by rheological analysis. Ongoing stability studies confirmed the minimal 6-month period.

24WOS© Citations 2 Comparison of coumarin quantity in cinnamon powder and food supplementsItem type:Publication, conference paper[2022][T1d][M003][1]; ; The 12th International Pharmacy Conference „Contemporary Pharmacy: Issues Challenges and Expectations 2022 autumn“ : abstract book : October 21st, 2022, Kaunas / Faculty of Pharmacy, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences ; The abstract book was prepared by Jurga Andreja Kazlauskaite and Inga Matulyte. Kaunas : Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, 2022. ISBN 9789955157694., 2022-10-21, p. 24-24.Background: Cinnamon is an aromatic spice obtained from Cinnamomum spp. inner barks of trees of the genus. The organic compound in cinnamon, coumarin, can have a hepatotoxic effect on the liver of adults and children. The resulting active metabolite ohydroxyphenylacetaldehyde (o-HPA) affects liver cells, causing their death [1]. Irresponsible and excessive consumption of cinnamon can cause irreversible effects on liver function. It is important to prescribe recommended daily doses. It is also important to consider the type and origin of cinnamon when purchasing cinnamon spices, as different types of cinnamon, such as Cinnamomum cassia B. or Cinnamomum zeylanicum B., have different levels of coumarin [2]. Aims: to determine and compare coumarin quantity content in cinnamon powder and food supplements: to apply and validate the high performance liquid chromatography method of coumarin for identification; to apply and validate the high performance liquid chromatography method of coumarin for quantification; to apply the most appropriate method of coumarin extraction; evaluate and compare the amount of coumarin in cinnamon powder and food supplements. Results: high performance liquid chromatography was applied and validated for coumarin identification (retention time ~ 13.350 min., detection at 274 nm). The eluents were used acetonitrile and water with 0.1 % trifluoroacetic acid. High performance liquid chromatography was applied and validated of coumarin for quantification: limit of quantification of coumarin from 0.008 to 0.125 mg/ml; correlation coefficient >0,99. Extraction was performed using a methanol-water (80:20) solution. Conclusions: the analysis showed that the largest amount of coumarin in cinnamon powder was 431.77 mg/kg, smallest amount was 2.85 mg/kg. Coumarin levels were 2.15 mg/kg and 12.63 mg/kg in food supplements. The amount of coumarin did not exceed the permissible daily dose, so cinnamon food supplements are safe for consumption.
