Abstract
Total ischemia of the rabbit myocardium markedly suppresses the rate of cardiac protein synthesis in vitro. The role of some components of protein synthesizing machinery was investigated, using various cell-free systems from intact and autolyzed myocardium. The most notable alterations under ischemia were exhibited by polyribosome preparations. Structirally: 1) after 30 min. of ischemia, free ribosome pool reaches the value of 59 % of the ribosome pool, as compared with 92% of those from intact myocardium; simultaneously, the membrane-bound ribosome content increases from 8% in intact hearts to 41% in autolyzed hearts.
