Aim of the research: To assess nurses‘knowledge in pressure ulcers‘prevention. Objectives: - To analyze nurses’ knowledge in pressure ulcers‘ prevention. - To assess nurses’ knowledge in care of patient with pressure ulcers. - To compare nurses’ knowledge in pressure ulcers‘ prevention and care of patients with pressure ulcers among nurses. Respondents: Nurses, working with patients with pressure ulcers or risk of them. 76 nurses were investigated. Research was done during January- February of 2008 year in 3 Kaunas hospitals by anonymous questionnaire test, created by authors. Results: Mostly of nurses know about reasons of pressure ulcers (82 percent), importance of prevention of pressure ulcers, proper means for prevention; can recognize early signs of pressure ulcers (72 percent). Nurses know what actions are needed in care of pressure ulcers and what means quicken healing of pressure ulcer (removal of pressure into ulcer, change of position, appropriate skin care). Nurses sometimes use inappropriate (old) means for prevention of pressure ulcers. Pressure ulcers’ risk scales are not used regularly. Nurses in nursing hospitals use risk scales for pressure ulcers more than nurses in university hospital (41,7 percent and 2,5 percent). Conclusion: Nurses’ knowledge in pressure ulcers’ prevention and care is insufficient.
