Rare diseases affected gastrointestinal tract or liver can be define as life-threatening or chronically debilitating diseases which are of such low prevalence (fewer than 1 in 2,000 people) that special combined efforts are needed to address them. Most rare diseases are genetic, and thus are present throughout the person's entire life, event if symptoms do not immediately appear. Currently in Lithuanua genetic testing for Wilson's dissease, HFE-hemochromatosis, alpha 1-antitrypsin defciency is introduced. Life-theatening orphan diseases in gastroenterology include Wilson disease, acute liver failure, acute Budd-Chiari syndrome, hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia, etc. The early diagnosis of rare diseases requires training of family physicians, internists and specialist-gastroenterologists for early recognition of life-threatening disorders and referring to expert centres. In Lithuania the management of orphan rare diseases has beenthe goal of successive government plans since 2011. [...].
