The Fourth Term of the LSMU Senate Commences: Chairperson of the Senate Elected
On Thursday, 23 October, the newly elected members of the fourth Senate of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) convened for their first meeting, called by the University’s Rector, Prof. Rimantas Benetis. During the session, a new Chairperson of the Senate was elected, members of the previous Senate term were honoured, and the Deputy Chair, Secretary, and Committee Chairpersons were appointed.
By decision of the senators, the distinguished position of Chairperson of the Senate was entrusted to Prof. Jūratė Macijauskienė.

“The documents approved and decisions adopted by the Senate shape the opportunities for our University to be strong, visible, and distinctive. Thank you for your trust – together with my newly elected colleagues, we shall work in the Senate to ensure that the coming years depend on our collective effort,” said Prof. J. Macijauskienė.
LSMU Rector Prof. Rimantas Benetis reviewed the work of the previous Senate term and presented letters of appreciation to the senators for their contribution to the University’s growth, progress, and promotion of the LSMU name.
“This year is particularly important for our community – it is an election period at the University. The newly elected Senate plays a crucial role, as it will decide on matters concerning the University’s operations, the main costs of research and studies, and staffing issues. This is careful and responsible work.
I extend my gratitude to the senators who have completed their term for their time, ideas, and dedication to building a stronger, more advanced, and more open academic community. And – my congratulations to the newly elected senators,” said the Rector.
The new Senate also elected the Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, and Committee Chairpersons. According to the Senate’s Rules of Procedure, candidates for committee chairpersons are nominated by the Chairperson of the Senate, and elected by a simple majority vote. Prof. Gintaras Zamokas was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Senate, and Prof. Ramunė Morkūnienė was elected Secretary of the Senate.
By decision of the senators:
- Prof. Juozas Kupčinskas was elected Chairperson of the Researchers and Lecturers Attestation Committee;
- Prof. Daiva Rastenytė was elected Chairperson of the Research and Studies Committee;
- Prof. Kęstutis Petrikonis was elected Chairperson of the Legal and Ethics Committee;
- Prof. Mindaugas Malakauskas was elected Chairperson of the Finance and Social Affairs Committee;
- Prof. Renaldas Jurkevičius was elected Chairperson of the University Development and Integration Committee.
In the near future, the Board of the Senate will be formed and regular matters scheduled for the Senate will be discussed.
