Academic activities – The department’s lecturers participate in the study programmes listed below and guide and advise students on issues of medical genetics, while preparing Bachelor’s and Master’s theses:
- Faculty of Medicine, Medicine, Genetics Residency;
- Faculty of Medicine, Medical and Veterinary Genetics 3rd year, taught subject – Medical Genetics I;
- Faculty of Medicine, Medicine, 5th year – Children’s Diseases module, taught subject – Clinical Genetics;
- Faculty of Medicine, Medical and Veterinary Genetics, Bachelor theses;
- Faculty of Medicine, Medicine, Master’s theses (Lithuanian and international students);
- Faculty of Medicine, Laboratory Medicine Biology, Master’s theses.
Clinical activity – in the Kaunas Clinics of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, geneticists provide genetic services: they advise children and adults on all genetic diseases. A wide range of genetic tests are performed in the laboratory of the Department of Genetics and Molecular Medicine : cytogenetic, molecular cytogenetic, molecular genetic from blood, plasma, tissues, amniotic fluid, chorionic villi, umbilical cord blood, urine, etc., using advanced equipment, selecting the most accurate genetic testing methods and ensuring research quality.
