BAISOGALA MANOR

A CULTURAL HERITAGE GEM IN THE HEART OF LITHUANIA

Baisogala Manor is an architectural monument of national importance, showcasing features of Classicism and Russian Empire styles. Construction of the manor ensemble is believed to have begun in the late 18th century, reaching its most ornate form in 1912 with the addition of the north and south wings. The palace still retains numerous valuable elements of its authentic interior. Today, the manor ensemble comprises 19 preserved buildings or their remains, nestled within a 12-hectare English-style park.

The manor belonged to the noble Komaras family for the longest period. Thanks to their forward-thinking approach to farming, a modern model farm was developed here during the interwar period. This became a foundation for agricultural science, which continues today through the activities of the Institute of Animal Science of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), housed on the estate.

For over sixty years, the Institute of Animal Science of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), has operated at Baisogala Manor. The Institute conducts scientific research and works to preserve and study Lithuania’s endangered native livestock breeds,  including the Žemaitukai horses, Lithuanian Light Grey and White-Backed and Lithuanian Red and Black-and-White cattle, indigenous and Lithuanian White pig, coarse-wooled sheep, Vištinės goose breed, and native goats.

Baisogala Manor is a significant cultural hub open to the public, hosting music festival concerts, community events, and art exhibitions.
