Honoring Generosity: LSMU Alumna Establishes a Scholarship for International Veterinary Students
The Veterinary Faculty is proud to announce a new scholarship established by Annamaria Lucia Newmark, an alumna of the Veterinary Medicine Class of 2024. This annual award will support international students in the Veterinary Medicine programme (years 2–6) who demonstrate academic excellence, professionalism, and active engagement in university life.
Annamaria Lucia Newmark was born and raised in the United States, where she completed all of her schooling prior to attending university. With her mother’s side of the family from Lithuania, she spent countless summers and holidays in the country, developing a deep connection to its culture and people. That bond ultimately led her to Kaunas, where she enrolled in the six-year Veterinary Medicine programme at LSMU immediately after graduating high school.

Throughout her studies, Annamaria was an active and passionate member of the LSMU community. She served as President of the Lithuanian International Veterinary Student Union (LIVSU), was a Student Ambassador, taught English to Lithuanian natives, organised Freshers Camp, and acted as a representative for international students in the Lithuanian National Union of Students (LSS). She also mentored first-year students and regularly spoke at conferences and seminars on the importance of internationality in education.
Today, Annamaria is a proud graduate and a veterinary intern in the United States, currently undergoing the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence (PAVE) process to obtain foreign veterinary licensure. With gratitude for her years at LSMU, she has established an annual scholarship to support and encourage future students who demonstrate academic excellence, professionalism, and a deep commitment to representing the university both locally and internationally.
“My years at LSMU shaped not only my professional path but also my worldview. I want to give back to the community that gave me so much,” says Annamaria.
Current international Veterinary Medicine students (years 2-6) are invited to apply for the Annamaria Lucia Newmark Scholarship. Applications are open until 11 December 2025, 12 p.m. For eligibility criteria and application details, please visit https://lsmu.lt/en/honorary-scholarship-competition-2025-2/.
We are proud to call Annamaria one of our own, and we thank her for continuing to carry the LSMU name forward with such passion and pride. We also extend our sincere gratitude for her generosity and the inspiration she continues to offer future veterinarians through her leadership, compassion, and dedication.
