Today, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) and the company Autokausta signed the construction contract for the new Faculty of Odontology building. This is a strategic University project that will become the most significant infrastructure development in Lithuania in recent decades to ensure the unity and quality of modern odontology studies, research, and clinical practice.

“The new Faculty of Odontology building is an extremely ambitious project, and the first major undertaking the University is implementing independently, without targeted state funding. It will open many new opportunities for the University, the Kaunas region, and Lithuania as a whole. Modern infrastructure will provide excellent conditions for students to acquire practical and clinical skills, support researchers in carrying out high-level scientific work, and foster the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods,” emphasised LSMU Rector Prof. Rimantas Benetis.

The CEO of Autokausta, Juozas Kriaučiūnas, assured that the company is experienced, stable, and capable of implementing major projects of this scale.

“We build for the future; we build for our city,” he stated.

Preparation Stage: From Vision to Solutions

The Dean of the LSMU Faculty of Odontology, Prof. Dainius Razukevičius, highlighted that preparations for the project were exceptionally thorough and professional. In developing this infrastructure, the team drew upon the best international experience and refined solutions that will most effectively meet the future needs of dental studies and research.

“We have created a project that will allow our students to learn in conditions comparable to those offered by the world’s most advanced universities. We are delighted that LSMU has approved this project, and we can now begin the next stage — construction,” said Prof. Razukevičius.

New Infrastructure: A World-Class Environment for Study and Research

The new faculty building, located at 51 Sukilėlių Avenue in Kaunas, is set to become one of the most state-of-the-art odontology centres in the region. Plans include an advanced simulation centre with 60 clinical simulators, ten advanced 3D/VR virtual reality simulators, next-generation phantom laboratories, modern spaces for study and clinical practice, research laboratories equipped with the latest technologies, and facilities for international training of residents, lecturers, and researchers.

Significant Benefits for Kaunas and Lithuania

Kaunas is increasingly establishing itself as an international academic city that attracts talent and foreign investment and fosters a competitive higher education environment across the Baltic region.

Every year, more foreign students enrol at LSMU, making up around 50 per cent of the students at the Faculty of Odontology. International students actively use the city’s infrastructure, pay taxes, and support local businesses — from restaurants to the services sector. Their presence increases airport passenger flows and stimulates the growth of public transport, logistics, and accommodation services.

Gratitude for Support and Shared Vision

The LSMU Faculty of Odontology community and its Dean, Prof. Razukevičius, express sincere gratitude to the Rector’s team, the Director of Administration and Finance Laima Matusevičienė, and the entire administrative staff for their support, initiative, and clear strategic vision.

“This project is the result of the trust and collective efforts of the entire LSMU community. It is an investment in Lithuania’s future, in the quality of education for our students and staff, and in the future healthcare system of the country,” the Dean emphasised.

The Faculty of Odontology is expected to open in early 2028.
